Since Cami is coming home tomorrow morning anything I post now won't ruin her vacation. The truth is the kids tolerated me this week, but they made it clear in a variety of ways that I'm not mom.
Evidence #1: Denial that Cami has ever left
Grace has been taping this to Cami's normal seat at the dinner table.
Also on her pillow.
This was OK set up until I woke up with her staring at me. Or maybe it was the other way around. Anyways, it was awkward and the relationship had no foundation.
Evidence #2: Grace is super-sad
Grace: Why didn't mom take me to Florida? (Tearing up)
Me: Because she needed a break and wanted to see her family.
Grace: I'm her family too. Why does she need a break from me? (Crying begins)
Me: Um.
Grace: I miss her so bad. (Serious sobbing at this point)
Me: Hey, so wait. Do you cry when I go on trips?
Grace: No. (Crying continues)
Me: (With a little less sympathy) Don't you miss me when I'm gone?
Grace: Yes, but I REALLY miss mommy.
She said some other stuff but I stopped listening at that point.
Evidence # 3: Cooper has gone feral.
He's starting to growl at me between meals.
Honestly, besides trying to keep up on work in the evenings I've had a blast hanging out with the kids. With how much I'm on the road it was needed to reconnect. Also, Grace better cry next time I leave or I'm not doing this again. Seriously.
